earth hour

an hour of darkness to take a stand against global warming. bring on the candles! it kind of reminds me of the summer of 2003 when we had a power outage around mid august and i took a shower by candlelight. loved the feeling it gave my apartment. i also overheard my sopranos neighbours drinking the last of their beer before it spoiled without the electricity. "you don't know the meaning of false advertising" was the quote i overheard and laughed about to myself for days afterwards. it has to be said in this mob-ster brooklyn-esque accent. anyhow, the count down begins. tell me how you spent your hour of darkness...

On stage! LOL! The house lights were down though. Does that count??

I loved earth day!
We sparked up the BBQ (actually more like shovelled it out) and lit a bunch of candles, turned off everything-no t.v.-no computer-no music...and just talked.
It was lovely.
we ended up keeping everything turned off for the rest of the evening.
I think it should be earth day at least once a month.
At least it will be in our house.

we read the paper and a book by flashlight and told stories of deluxe days past. it was a lot of fun. candles flickering, you could really absorb the moment...not a forgettable one for sure. i think you are right that it should be more than a token hour...we should integrate turning off the lights into our daily lives. those empty office buildings on evenings and weekends seem especially wasteful.
