everyone has to start
somewhere. I have been chasing my soul for a bit and the first post was bound to be tricky. a break changes the way you see the world, doesn't it? maybe we are always changing but we only notice the shifts when our habits become illuminated.hmmm...

coat tails
the wind chases the trench coat crowd
down hurried sidewalks, through crowded hours
past corridors of stillness
maybe you caught your reflection
in their coat tails
down hurried sidewalks, through crowded hours
past corridors of stillness
maybe you caught your reflection
in their coat tails

a thousand maybes
a gasp of wonder
ignites the air
a crack of light
and then
a rumble of thunder
break the sky
a thousand maybes
collide on the horizon
whispers rising into cloud
an idea is born.

make believe
we make
movies in our minds, every moment
we edit the sound and picture
and convince ourselves it is real
we are hard wired for

a balance sheet in the sky
when his pocket watch records the minutes
they end up on a balance sheet in the sky
a swirling mess of numbers
that feast on his days
like a ravenous wolf

blink
life in a bubble
out the window, birds fly backwards
and sing in jazz
soul mates speak in kisses
and blink photographs

the happenstance lottery
ribbons of light unfold
across the ceiling
shadows unravel in equal measure
above, the happenstance lottery plays
light and dark fortunes emerge
and disappear
we are the wild cards
what will we notice and what will we ignore?
any fate can surface
we build stories
from our brushes
with chance.

magnolia blooms inhale our whims
inventing skyscrapers made of fragrance
and rockets headed for cloud

word play: 9: mine
this number mind doodle will be a little different than the others. call it un-copywriting. i have no beef with the company, it just flirted with my imagination and funny bone and happens to be nine letters long. actually it has 10. (i missed the double l as the mind doodle was forming so the extra l is mine and lovely in all its' imaginary rule-breaking glory.) it is a brand which also sets it apart, a word that is filled to the brim with stories.
maybelline
"make believe" or "maybe lying"
which is what make-up is in many ways, a mask we choose to wear.
the commercial that spurred this line of thought was about "fitt me" foundation and in my dreamy state it seemed like they were saying "pick me" which reminded me of a teenage girl aching to be noticed by the Trip Fontaine du jour.
all the rhetoric about "natural" and "letting the real you shine through" just seemed comical to me.
